Hello, Competition Hunters! As you may have heard – Facebook times are a-changing… again! From January 2015, promotional content that intends to persuade people to enter a competition, buy something or install an app are going to be less prominent in Facebook newsfeeds.

While it’s great news for non-compers, it appears as bad news for Competition Hunters! At present, it is relatively easy to scroll through the newsfeed and find a Facebook competition, but what if those posts appear less often?

Don’t despair! This is not the end of the Facebook competition – promoters will still be posting these competitions, but Facebook users’ chance of discovering them in the newsfeed is less likely.  How else can we find promotional competitions on Facebook after January 2015?

There is no one definitive way to find them, but there are several viable options.

Promoters that make their content available outside Facebook will be easy to find. When a promoter sets up a page, they get the option to make the content searchable on the Internet. Therefore, searching ‘Facebook’ and your competition search term into Google should yield plenty of results.
Unlike Twitter, Facebook hashtags are not utilised to their full extent or potential. This may change in the future, but at the moment, we can only work with what we have. The results from searching #competition or #win in the Facebook search bar can bring up some unusual competitions and new promoters to follow, but there are a lot of scams out there so you need to be confident and use your comperly goodness to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Selecting ‘Get Notifications’ is one, albeit burdensome, solution. Promoters often update their content and every time they update – competition or not – you’ll get a notification.  Yes, you’ll get the competition when it is posted, but you’ll also get a LOT of non-competition posts.
Accessing your ‘Likes’ and simply clicking into the page to check if any competitions are being promoted is another – again, not a quick strategy,
If your newsfeed is crammed with non-comp material by a particular promoter, then a simple click to bring you onto their page will reveal all the posts. The more active a promoter’s page is, the more likely they are to have posted a competition.

If you haven’t placed your Facebook eggs all in one basket, there’s a chance that you may be doing some of these suggestions already. If not, don’t worry – you’ll find the way that suits you, doing it before January 2015 will be beneficial and soon enough and the comps will be rolling your way!
Have you got any further suggestions? We’d love to hear them! Let us know in the comments below!
