As you may have gathered, I’m a sucker for anything creative! I can turn the most boring things into all manner of excitement! Well, this post is going to let you in on my most creative hacks for winning otherwise boring competitions.
1) Competitions that ask for answers on a postcard: In my younger days, I worked for a magazine publishing company. The company published about 50 titles and I had to pick winners for their promotions. This particular competition was an expensive one. It was a win a bike competition for a specialist bike magazine. The manager came over with a selection of postcards. I was told to make an elaborate postcard the winner, and I could choose the winners for the runners-up. The winning postcard in question was VERY elaborate – a lot of work had gone into the entry.
2) Leave an answer on Facebook/Twitter competitions: This is one of my favourites – I’ve lost track of how many times this has worked for me, but the first one was with Captain Fawcett Moustache Wax. I entered LOADS of comments to suggest fragrances for new waxes and the promoter made a special prize for the most prolific commenter and sent me a whole bunch of promotional items that weren’t on offer as prizes – it was so exciting!
3) Make a funny video to win the weekly prize: I won the weekly £100 on Wonga by changing the words to their radio advert, singing it and begging to win! Again, I wasn’t the ACTUAL winner of the weekly prize, but they gave me £100 after a public vote on their page entitled: Should we give this woman £100 – luckily, most said yes and the comments to it were really funny! I’m looking forward to looking out for opportunities to do this again, so good luck if you see it and do it – and we’d love you to share the result!
4) Draw a cute picture if asked for a photo: Rigby and Mac competition during Christmas 2013 ran a competition to win a teapot by asking for photos of your teapot. Lots of people moaned that they didn’t have one. So I drew one and it won! My comping buddy also won a Dorset Tea prize via this method – so it definitely works – try it, and let us know your results!
5) Answer a question with a photo: I’m trialling this at the moment over at Film Feed on Facebook. The comp is Need for Speed merchandise and has a lot of entries so, in answer to the question: What is Aaron Paul’s character called, we will check your spelling, I have replied: I obey the rules like Tobey Marshall obeys the speed limit with a photo of a Toe, a Bee and a Marshall Speaker. I’ll let you know how I get on!
