shutterstock_victoriousDo you like collecting points and badges? This is your lucky day! Just for reading on,  You have just earned 50 points! Was that an amused/baffled face I saw? Here have the Amused and Baffled Comper VIP Badge.

Gamification is just a bit of fun! You have probably played games where you have to collect certain achievements, and this can also be applied to entering competitions.

When my friend first began comping, she was excited about at her first flurry of wins. It was so nice to see her so happy so I decided to draw her funny little reward badges each time she collected prizes that were worth over £50. I coloured them in and posted them on her Facebook wall. She loved them and got excited, even prompting me to receive more!

The word ‘Gamification’ sounds boring, but bear with me – you are going to like it by the end! This post hopes to give you an insight into how to use it for yourself in a very easy-peasy and fun way. PLUS! You have more points to complete and there’s more badges to collect…do you think you can do it?

Read this to collect the GAMIFICATION Know-All Badge: The word was coined in 2003 by a computer programmer called Nick Pelling  -programmers aren’t known for one syllable words are they! It became popular in 2011 when businesses began incorporating game-playing into their customer experiences.

You already engage with gamification! (Have 500 points!).  A lot of businesses use it as a customer motivational/reward type tool.  Good examples of these are via Loyalty cards, Nike Fuel Bands, supermarket vouchers. They all act to make us do more, be it shop at the same store, do more exercise or buy certain items to gain monetary rewards. The one outstanding example of this on the Competition Hunter website is the collection and accumulation of Karma points that we receive on uploading a competition.

Unfortunately, there aren’t any apps that allow you to gamify your entire comping hobby (if you see any, please let us know). You can call your achievements anything you like! It’s your game, but here are a few ideas to start you off!

  •  50 ‘Answer the question’ competitions in a day: 100 Points
  • 50 Prize draws in three hours: 150 points
  • Trying a new type of competition: 200 points
  • Downloading an app to help you complete a competition: 500 points
  • Managing your inbox all week: 700 points

The only limit is your imagination! You might want to make a league table for yourself, or even bringing your friends in on it! It’s up to you!

Have you ever thought about this before? Do you think you’d enjoy your hobby more if you gamified it? What categories or badges would you give yourself? For a The Ultimate CH BLOG POST COMMENTER Badge, plus three trillion points – tell us in the comments below!
