Comping is sometimes seen as greedy, materialistic and horrible things like that. So – after thinking about The Seven Sins of Comping, I thought it would be amusing to follow up with some virtues. Virtues are not as controversial as the sins, but then, virtues never are, are they?
Pull up a chair, pour yourself a nice cup of tea and prepare to feel utterly angelic:
Sharing the love with friends and family: There is nothing nicer than winning competitions on behalf of loved ones, is there? Whether it is entering to win a spa day for a friend or to win an iPad for your spouse. Winning for others really makes your hobby feel like the best hobby in the world – if not to you, then certainly to your lucky recipients!
Supporting independent businesses: Many small UK businesses attract their first large audiences with competitions. We share competitions for them and we are sometimes their first customers! Have you followed a business and then ended up as their customer?
Helping Newbies: We are nice people that like fun! The more we encourage others to join in, the more they do. I have almost lost count of the amount of people I have told to like the company page rather than liking the picture on my wall! Bless. We were all there once! How many have you converted?
Local Organisation support: From competitions to design local council posters, to school competitions (even donating wins as raffle prizes) – it all helps to make us feel the most utterly virtuous, and very deserving of our luck when it does come!
Developing Personal Skills: Who needs inspirational quotes about motivation and staying power when we live it every day – I think we could teach the Dali Lama a thing or two about patience! Anyone trying to break through a dry-spell knows a thing or two about motivation and carrying on regardless!
Non-invasive to life: We do it in our breaks, in queues and in our spare time – no special equipment required – unlike many expensive hobbies. We are quite resourceful little things, really!
Helping fellow compers The community spirit is alive and kicking in the competition circles. We are always wiling to give the heads up on brilliant competitions that we have found and share our special tips.
Goodness, >wipes brow< I don’t know about you, but I’m off to polish my halo!
Have you done something so utterly nice for others that it brightened your day? Tell us all about it in the comments…
